Class Notes - Sac State Connection - March 2009

1960s
Jacqueline (Jackie) Walden, Ph.D., ‘68, B.A., Psychology; '89, M.A., Anthropology, moved three years ago to the woodlands of Grants Pass, Or., where she serves on the Board of Directors and Ethics Committee of the local Lovejoy Hospice. Her specialization in gerontology prepared her well for these challenging positions. In addition, she authored one of the chapters in Left Coast Press' new publication, Women in Anthropology: Autobiographical Narratives and Social History. In it, Walden gives thanks to her mentors, Professors George Rich and Melford Weiss of the Anthropology Department at Sacramento State for their help in her career.

1970s
Edward Winkler, ’79, B.S.; ’84 M.S., Civil Engineering, recently accepted a position with the engineering firm CH2M Hill as vice president and regional client services director in Northern California after completing 28 years of public service in the water industry. Winkler and his wife, Trish, have become empty-nesters as their youngest daughter, Chelsea is off to college. Their eldest daughter Krista will soon graduate college with the goal of becoming a teacher. The family lives in Carmichael.

1980s
Evin (Langley) Fox,  '86, B.A., Liberal Studies, has been teaching in Twin Falls, Idaho public schools for 15 years and is now an associate professor of education at the College of Southern Idaho. She specializes in early childhood education and serves on the board of the Idaho Council of Teachers of English. She is a doctoral candidate in educational leadership at the University of Idaho, where Fox earned her Ed.S. in 2002. Prior to moving to Idaho, she and husband, Jeff (a Sac State alumnus), lived and worked in Japan for nearly four years. They now live in Twin Falls along with their two sons.

Dr. Jill J. (Clark) Bissell, '85, B.A., Liberal Studies and Education Credentials, is a self-employed clinical psychologist with emphasis on restoring family harmony. Her work involves training adoptive parents of Ukrainian orphans and their caseworkers, and helping parents and staff in their work with traumatized children. Bissell resides in Sacramento with her husband, John.

1990s
George D. Singewald, ‘97, B.S.; 2003, M.S., Criminal Justice, was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award and a Life Saving Award by the Sacramento Police Foundation. Singewald has been a member of the Sacramento Police Department SWAT team for the last 10 years. He was recognized for his dedicated and valuable service to the department and for heroism in providing emergency aid to an injured child. George, his wife, and 6-year-old son live in Sacramento.

2000s
Samuel Ellison, ‘02, B.S., Business Administration MIS, is the IT manager at Macias Gini & O'Connell LLP in Sacramento. He was the IT supervisor at the company for more than five years and excels in network management, Citrix, and database administration. Ellison makes his home in Sacramento.

Andrew Frishman, ‘06, Education Credentials, is the internship coordinator at Met Sacramento High School, a small innovative charter school in Downtown Sacramento.
