Sac State alumna specializes in reviving schools
Spend a workday with Nancy Purcell '86 (History) and be prepared for perpetual motion. The Sac State alumna is the principal of Fern Bacon Middle School in south Sacramento, and she is continually on the go—talking with students, addressing their concerns, resolving their conflicts, ensuring they get to class and heading off potential problems. Ray and Barnes add Hornet flavor to Grey Cup title
Former Hornets Ricky Ray ’01 (Business) and Jason Barnes ’12 (Communication Studies) combined to lead the Toronto Argonauts to a 35-22 victory over Calgary in the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto, Canada. Read more

Sacramento State
Robin Hood and his Merry Men are on their way to Sacramento State. But this Robin is less an outlaw and more a tree-hugging redistributor of wealth. Directed by Professor Michelle Felten, this slightly skewed version of the classic tale has performances through Sunday, Dec. 9. Read more

Sac State hosts Chinese sister city delegation
Interim Provost Charles Gossett welcomed a delegation from the Jinan Municipal People’s Government to Sacramento State, marking a continuing relationship among the city of Sacramento, Sacramento State and Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province in the People’s Republic of China.

Eleven football players earn All-Big Sky honors

Larger than life
It’s 10 a.m. and although that’s mid-morning for most people, for Mayor Tim Sbranti ’97 (Government) of Dublin, it’s half way through a long day that started at 4:30 a.m. Up early most mornings reading and responding to emails is how Mayor Sbranti’s day begins followed by teaching at his city’s high school, managing a nonprofit, coaching two varsity teams, taping a weekly sports broadcast and, of course, serving as mayor.
