Cheryl DellCommunications alumna at the helm of the region's largest media organization


Cheryl Dell ’82 graduated from Sac State with a communications degree and she returned to the city in 2008 as publisher and president of The Sacramento Bee. And it all began at a little radio station in Modesto, Calif.

Students shaping the future

Jolene FordJolene Ford easily could have given up when she was diagnosed with HIV and struggled with years of clinical depression, alcoholism and drug addiction. Instead, she enrolled in college. Her pursuit of higher education helped her regain self-confidence and define her life's purpose in helping people affected by HIV/AIDS. Now she is the recipient of a CSU Trustees' Award.

Student team wins national contest


Construction ManagementSac State’s Construction Management team handily won the 2013 Associated Schools of Construction’s inaugural Healthcare Preconstruction Competition in the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove, Ill., scoring 95 out of 100 points and bringing home a check for $1,000.

Professor headed to Finland as Fulbright Scholar


David ZuckermanSac State Communication Studies Professor David Zuckerman has been awarded a Fulbright Specialist Program grant to teach international communication for five weeks at the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. The first in his family to get a college degree, he identifies with student struggles and uses these travel opportunities to put more into the classroom.

Donor SupportSacramento State received more than $1.8 million in gifts and pledges during the first quarter of the 2013-14 fiscal year (July 1 to Sept. 30). Generous private support boosted both student scholarships and community programs in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies and the College of Business Administration as well as other areas throughout the University.
