Crandell honored for philanthropy

University Foundation chair George Crandell has been named Philanthropist of the Year by the California Capital Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Crandell, who has served on the Board of Directors of the University Foundation at Sacramento State for more than 20 years and was awarded the President’s Medal at Spring Commencement, received the honor at this year’s National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on Nov. 3.

Crandell and his wife, Linda, have a long history of generosity to the Sacramento Region. At Sacramento State, George Crandell made the lead gift to a $100,000 campaign for the Troops to College program, which provides academic, financial and emotional support for veterans and their families who are pursuing a degree. He and Linda also developed the Crandell Faculty Advancement Awards, which encourage professors to become more involved in raising funds for their colleges and departments. In addition, George and Linda are founding members of the President’s Circle, a program that assists President Alexander Gonzalez in responding to immediate needs at the University.
