Basketball Fan Bus to Santa Clara

Ride the Hornet Fan Bus to Santa Clara with friends and fans to watch the Hornet men’s basketball team take on Santa Clara University in an exciting matchup on Saturday, Dec. 6. The trip comes on the heels of a very successful basketball reunion and hall of fame dinner coordinated by the new Basketball Alumni and Friends Chapter of the Alumni Association. Alumni interest and excitement over what looks to be a promising season for new coach and alumnus Brian Katz is expected to lead to a fan bus sellout.

Distinguished Service Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 Distinguished Service Awards. Applications can be downloaded and returned to the Sac State Alumni Association by Dec. 1. Marching Band 50th anniversary

Join the Sac State March Band as it celebrates its 50th anniversary with a special performance at the Nov. 15 football game against Northern Colorado. All alumni of the marching band are invited to play with the band at halftime and during the game.

The Marching Band will continue to celebrate its Golden Anniversary with special events and activities throughout the 2008-09 academic year. The Band asks all alumni to call the Band Office at (916) 278-7571 with their current contact information or for more information about getting involved with marching band alumni.

Alumni Summit in China

Distance is no deterrent when it comes to Hornet Pride, as was evident during Sac State’s Alumni Summit in Hong Kong Oct. 25-26. Sac State alumni and supporters from the Sacramento Region met with their Hong Kong counterparts in a effort to further strengthen and build university relations in the Asia Pacific region, specifically China.

Here comes the sun

Sac State has been selected as one of 16 California State University system campuses to tap into the power of the sun through a public-private partnership agreement between SunEdison and the CSU. Eight solar photovoltaic power generation systems are expected to deliver approximately 12.2 million kilowatt hours of clean renewable energy to the campuses in their first year of operation, the equivalent annual energy consumption of 1,256 households.

As Sac State men’s basketball launches its 2008-09 season, seven former players are playing professionally overseas. In fact, each is playing in a different country, spanning Puerto Rico, Portugal, Belgium, Romania, Australia, Poland and Germany.

Big boost for Education

When it comes to private support for Sacramento State, the week of October 20, 2008 was one for the books. In the space of a few days, the Office of University Advancement received two gifts totaling more than $700,000. Both will benefit the College of Education.
