Fairy Tale Town
Volunteers are needed to help at Fairytale Town on Oct. 27, for the hobbit-themed event. The event runs from 3:45-10 p.m. and volunteers are encouraged to wear a costume for this fun event!

Picnic on the BridgeOrganized in response to the suggestion of alumnus Roger Valine ’73 (Sociology), University Advancement ran with the opportunity to showcase our role in the farm-to-fork movement from alumni in the industry to the ASI Farmers Market. More than 150 students, faculty, staff and guests took part in this momentous event.

Office Politics Handbook
Jack Godwin, chief international officer and director of global education at Sac State, is the author of the just-published The Office Politics Handbook: Winning the Game of Power and Politics at Work. A political scientist, Godwin, offers tips on how anyone can cultivate political skills and exercise power beyond his or her place on the organizational chart.

Jana NoelSac State professor wins book award


Jana Noel, a professor of teacher education, received the 2013 Critics Choice Award from the American Educational Studies Association for a book she edited, Moving Teacher Education into Urban Schools and Communities: Prioritizing Community Strengths.

Faculty member to deliver prestigious Livingston Lecture
Thursday, Nov. 7


Sue Holl Sue Holl will present on, “Engineering Education: Thoughtful Design of a Quality University Curriculum.” The Livingston Lecture is an honor awarded each year to a member of the Sac State faculty who has been active in the life of the University. This event celebrates the life of the late John “Jack” Livingston, a professor of government at Sac State from 1954-1981.

2013 applicationsHigh school seniors, community college transfer students and others applying for admission to Sac State as undergraduates are encouraged to apply no later than Saturday, Nov. 30. A new tool that will provide students with additional insight into making their college decision is a degree database recently launched by the CSU Chancellor’s Office.

Safron named Big Sky offensive player of the week

Garrett Safron
Sac State quarterback Garrett Safron was named the Big Sky Conference ROOT Sports Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Oct. 7. The honor is the first for Safron this season and the third for his career. In the team's 37-21 win over Northern Colorado, Safron completed 26-of-39 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 33 yards.

Mata named co-Big Sky soccer defensive player of the week


Kimberly MataAfter posting a pair of shutouts, Sac State junior goalkeeper Kimberly Mata was named Co-Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. She now has four shutouts this season and five for her career. Mata leads the Big Sky with a .842 save percentage this season.

Family honors loved one by supporting second careers

Robert Larson scholarshipSteven Sylvester spent much of the past 20 years remodeling and repairing houses. When he decided it was time to overhaul his career, he turned to Sac State’s physical therapy program. The career change was not easy, but as he closes in on his goal, Sylvester has no regrets about his choice.
