Don’t Miss this Party! Saturday, Oct. 10

Homecoming 2009 is a not your average pre-game party. This year’s activities include a climbing wall for big kids, a Kidz Zone for little ones and a hub of entertainment for the whole family at Center Stage, hosted by special guest and emcee Mark S. Allen of the CW31 Good Day Sacramento. The Festival starts at 11 a.m., kick-off vs. Idaho State is at 2:05 p.m.

Mayor Kevin Johnson Coming to Campus!

Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast and an opportunity to hear Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson speak on the topic of “Sacramento’s Economy: Today’s Priorities, Tomorrow’s Opportunities.” Also speaking and introducing Johnson will be Rob Fong, Sacramento City Councilmember. This event is co-sponsored by the Sacramento State Alumni Association and the Alumni Association’s Business Chapter Breakfast Speaker Series. Cost: $10/Alumni Association members and $20/non-members. Space is limited, so RSVP by Friday, Oct. 9.

Do you know any outstanding Sac State alumni? Consider nominating them for the 2010 Distinguished Service Awards. Awards are given jointly by the University and Alumni Association to recognize alumni achievements. The deadline to nominate is Nov. 16.

Give Hornets! Causeway Blood Drive Challenge

Beat UC Davis and save lives. Alumni can take part in the second BloodSource-sponsored, Causeway Blood Drive Challenge. Donate blood anytime between Oct. 19 and Nov. 18 and your pint can count towards Sac State’s total. You can make your donation during Sacramento State’s blood drive, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 19-20, in the University Union Ballroom, or at a Sacramento area BloodSource location visit www.bloodsource.org/locations.aspx. Use code L030 to have your pint be part of Sac State’s effort to win the Causeway Blood Drive. The group with the most participation will win $500 in the group’s name. Run to Feed the Hungry

Sacramento State is putting together a team for the annual Run to Feed the Hungry on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 26, and all alumni and their family members and friends are invited to participate. The run is billed as the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the nation, and organizers expect to draw more than 30,000 people this year. Proceeds from the race support the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. For information on how to register, please visit www.csus.edu/pa/run/. Estate Planning Advice

The Office of University Development’s Planned Giving program offers frequent, free estate and financial planning seminars. Our next Estate Planning 101 workshop, led by estate planning specialist Mark Drobny, will be Thursday, Nov. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sacramento State Alumni Center. The seminar will offer the latest information on properly structuring your estate plan in order to preserve your assets for your life and beyond, for your loved ones and your favorite charities.
