Government Career Fair
Alumni in all professions are invited to a career fair at 6 p.m., Tuesday, October 21 at the Alumni Center, sponsored by the Business Chapter of the Alumni Association. One part career fair, one part professional networking, the Experienced Hire – Government Career Fair is exclusively designed for the working professional looking for a new position, career change or better opportunity. It is free to Association members and $10 for non-members with early registration by Oct. 14. Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be provided.

Accepting nominations
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 Distinguished Service Awards. Applications can be downloaded and returned to the Sac State Alumni Association by Dec. 1. Causeway Classic festivities
- Causeway Blood Drive Challenge: Help save lives and beat UC Davis at the same time. Give blood anytime between Oct. 20 and Nov. 6 at a Sacramento area Blood Source location. When you give them the code L029, your pint will be added to the Sac State tally.
- 55th Annual Causeway Classic Luncheon, Tuesday, Nov. 4. Reserve tickets (pdf).
- Ride the Hornet Fan Bus to the Causeway Classic, Saturday, Nov. 8. After a noontime “Beat Davis” tailgate and rally, get on the bus to Aggie Stadium for the 2:05 p.m. kick-off. Buy your tickets now.
Marching Band turns 50
The Sac State Marching Band celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year. The 50th Anniversary Celebration will feature a specially written halftime show for the Nov. 15 football game against Northern Colorado. Marching band alumni are invited to play with the band at halftime. Alums are asked to call the band office at (916) 278-7571 with their current contact information.

Campus launches Troops initiative
Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez and University Foundation Chair George Crandell have announced a campaign to raise $100,000 for scholarships and other needed support services for veterans, active-duty military personnel and their dependents who are struggling to cover the expenses of obtaining a college degree.

Ground broken for rec/wellness center
One of the most anticipated buildings on campus is one step closer to reality. On Oct. 1, ground was broken for the new 153,000-square-foot, Recreation and Wellness Center to be built on the north end of Hornet Stadium.

New Basketball Hall of Fame
The Hornet Men’s Basketball Alumni Chapter will host the first Basketball Hall of Fame and Tip-Off Banquet at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Alumni Center. This reunion celebration will include an induction ceremony of the 1961-62 team, which gained national recognition with a playoff run that landed them in the finals. All former basketball players and supporters of Hornet Basketball are invited to attend. RSVP online
