Douglas Curley left his native Spokane, Washington chiefly to attend Sacramento State, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1979. Doug’s 30-year career in journalism and publishing began with editorial positions on the campus State Hornet Newspaper and from there he graduated to the Davis Enterprise, the Vacaville Reporter, and Sacramento Magazine, among others. Today Doug Curley is the Editor-in-Chief of Comstock’s magazine and our area’s level of professionalism and sophistication in journalism has never been higher.
In this digital age, Comstock’s magazine remains a premier publication through Doug’s in-depth treatment of the vital concerns of our region as well as creative reporting and reflection on local business, economics, politics and people. Through his role at Comstock’s magazine, he has been a supporter of Valley Vision, Green Energy Showcase and other organizations that work toward a positive future.
Doug worked with East Sacramento’s Little League for several years and was lead organizer for an Albie Aware program, which raised $5,000 in its first year to fund mammograms for low-income women. He has been involved with the University through journalistic reporting, the EMBA program, and through a self-funded journalism scholarship program. Doug has been active with the Downtown Rotary Club for many years and is a hands-on community volunteer and leader.
