Alumni Summit in China

Nearly two dozen alumni and friends have already reserved their seat on the Alumni Association's October trip to China. Join them and Sac State President Alexander Gonzalez for the first-ever International Summit in Hong Kong and excursion to Beijing, Oct. 22 to 31. The U.S. travelers will be joined in Hong Kong Oct. 24-26 by alumni living in China to participate in a two-day summit addressing such issues as preparing a global workforce, arts and cultural exchanges, and business development. Salute to Spirit tailgate party

At 4 p.m., Saturday, August 30, join in the new tradition of welcoming back yell and song leaders, mascots, marching band members and gridiron teammates from the past. The annual football and spirit leader reunion will take place in the Alumni Center parking lot to kick off of the Sac State football season. Food is available for purchase or bring your own. Tailgate starts at 4 p.m., football game kickoff against Humboldt State is at 6 p.m.


Pre-football tailgating

Tailgating is back and buzzing for the 2008 football season before the home games on Sept. 13, 20 and 27, Oct. 25 and Nov. 15. Tailgating begins two hours prior to kickoff. Food can be purchased on site or bring your own. The festivities include a bounce house for the kids, music and giveaways.

Football season tickets are on sale now, and alumni pay only $65, regularly $80, for six games in reserved seating. For tickets, call (916) 278-2222.

New look for Hornets Nest

Photo: New designed floorThe Hornets Nest, which serves as the home facility for Sac State’s men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams has been given a major overhaul. The newly designed floor features sidelines which read “Colberg Court,” named after recently retired volleyball coach Debby Colberg.

Writers’ Conference returns

Dinah Lenney, author of Bigger Than Life: A Murder, A Memoir, will be the keynote speaker at Sac State’s Summer Writers’ Conference, Aug. 16-17. Lenney’s critically acclaimed memoir is about the murder of her father in 1997 and the impact it had on her and the family.

Discounts at the Aquatic Center

Enjoy a day by the water with family and friends at the Sac State Aquatic Center. Association members receive discounts on rentals of kayaks, canoes, paddle boats and other boating equipment. The Aquatic Center also offers youth summer programs, adult and youth water ski and jet ski lessons, and facility rentals.
