Spring commencement


Lester HoltOn May 22 and 23, President Alexander Gonzalez officiated his final graduation ceremonies before retiring this summer. In addition to welcoming nearly 5,000 students to the Hornet family, President Gonzalez awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service to five exemplary alumni. Guerra to begin term as Alumni Association president


Eric GuerraIn July, Eric Guerra '03 (Electrical and Electronic Engineering), MPPA '08 will begin his term as president of the Sac State Alumni Association Board of Directors. Recently elected to the Sacramento City Council, Guerra is active in the local community. He currently serves as a policy analyst at the state capitol. He will succeed Marco Rodriguez '91 (Business Administration) who will finish his term in June.

CSU Trustees approve Campus Master Plan

Master Plan Sac State's Campus Master Plan 2015—the blueprint for the next 20 years—was approved in May by the California State University Board of Trustees. The board also conferred the title of President Emeritus on Dr. Alexander Gonzalez. Read article



Sac State students top the field at CSU research competition

Research competitionThree students earned high honors at the 29th annual California State University Student Research Competition. Public policy and administration graduate student Terra Thorne and undergraduate Nyree Hall placed first, while undergraduate Wyatt Andersen placed second in their respective sessions. The competition, which drew 260 students from 22 campuses, required participants to make oral presentations about original research. Read article

University announces The Power of 1,000 Hornets campaign

Power of 1,000 HornetsSac State celebrated the success of the Hornet men's and women's basketball teams while also announcing its plan to launch a new fundraising campaign. Deemed "The Power of 1,000 Hornets," the campaign hopes to generate over $1 million towards an on-campus events center. Read article
