Capital Swarm Photo—Wed., April 8, 12:30 p.m. Join fellow Hornets at the Capitol's north steps for a group photo.

U-Create!—Thurs., April 9, 5-9 p.m. Get artsy on S Street as part of the Festival of the Arts! Visit the Alumni Association booth at Beatnik Studios for our free photo booth.
Family Sunday Funday—Sun., April 12, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Bring the family to campus for this day of fun, shows and events. Look for the Alumni Association booth!
Career Buzz: Hornet Success Stories—Tues., April 16, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Graduates of the last decade and students are invited to get career advice from Hornets featured in the Sacramento Business Journal’s “40 Under 40."
Hornets Policy & Politics Alumni Mixer—Thurs., April 16, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Network with fellow alumni working in and around the Capitol.
Special Alumni Performance of "Avenue Q"—Fri., April 17, 6 p.m. Enjoy a pre-show reception including a meet and greet with director Art Grueneberger '94 (Liberal Studies) before sitting down to this award-winning musical.

The Distinguished Alumni Awards—Thurs., April 23, 5:30 p.m. Preview some of our great silent auction items! All proceeds benefit the Alumni Association Scholarship Program.
Bay Area Alumni Mixer—Wed., April 29, 5:30-7 p.m. Network with Bay Area alumni at this regional mixer at Pyramid Alehouse in Walnut Creek.

Sac State 5K Fun Run—Thurs., April 30, 6 p.m. Join alumni and students on a 5K course through the campus.

2015 Chapter of the Year

Sac State's new president named

Robert S. NelsenThe California State University Board of Trustees has appointed Robert S. Nelsen, as the next president of California State University, Sacramento. Formerly the president of the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, Nelsen has most recently served in an advisory capacity for the University of Texas System. He will assume leadership in July. Read article

Gift announcements among highlights at Sac State Gala

Green & Gold GalaSac State's Green & Gold Gala was a huge success! In addition to celebrating the accomplishments of President Alexander Gonzalez and his wife, Gloria, the event netted more than $450,000 for scholarships. Also announced were two large gifts resulting in significant philanthropic support for Sac State. First, the naming of the Alumni Center after Leslie '55 (Business Administration) and Anita Harper. Second, the establishment of the University's first endowed chair for the Department of Public Policy and Administration. Read article

Sac State to build new residence hall

Residence Hall
This summer Sac State will break ground on a four-story residence hall along the American River. The structure, to be built on a parking lot south of Desmond Hall, will house 252 freshmen and 164 sophomores.

Estate Planning 101
Committed to campus safety and victim advocacy, Sac State will host several events during April as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Planned activities include Take Back the Night, Denim Day, Bystander Day and much more. Read article

Rare corpse flower noses its way into the spotlight

Corpse FlowerAll eyes, and noses, were on Sac State's corpse flower, which bloomed in late March for the first time in 20 years. The massive plant is aptly named for the pungent, even repugnant, fragrance it emits when it flowers.

Baseball completes sweep of New Mexico State

Sac State BaseballSophomore pitcher Justin Dillon allowed just three hits over eight innings for his first career shutout as the Hornets scored two runs in the eighth to put the WAC 10-run mercy rule into effect in a 10-0 win over New Mexico State. Read article
