April is Alumni Month

Alumni Month HerkyThe month of April marks Alumni Month! We have so much in store for you this month to celebrate our alumni. Be sure to take advantage of your alumni discounts offered at multiple places throughout the month in honor of alumni.

Career Buzz Mentoring Dinner—Wednesday, April 10, 6 p.m. Share your professional expertise with our Student Alumni Association members.
Alumni mixer at Roseville’s Yard House—Tuesday, April 16, 5-7 p.m. Calling Placer County alumni—join us for hosted appetizers and a no-host bar. Go Hornets!
Sac State 5K Fun Run—Thursday, April 18, 6 p.m. Join alumni and students on a 5K course through the campus. Join the Alumni Association team and use code: SACSTATEALUMNI to save $3 (first 100 people).
Networking Mixer at Harlow’s, Sacramento—Friday, April 19, 5 p.m. Come for the networking, stay for the band.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards—Thursday, April 25, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Join emcee Kitty O’Neal ’79 (Communication Studies) and your fellow alumni for an evening of elegance and celebration.
Hornets Dining on the Move—Wednesday, May 1, 5:30-7:30 p.m. This progressive dinner features a number of venues throughout the evening. Satisfy your taste buds and visit with fellow Hornets.

Steve Turré plays Capistrano Hall


Steve TurreTrombonist and alumnus Steve Turré (Music) will perform Wednesday, April 17, 8 p.m. as part of the University’s Jazz Ensemble in Capistrano Hall. Turre is a member of the Saturday Night Live band and is a world renowned trombonist and seashellist. He brings his unique and powerful music style to Sacramento State for what promises to be a memorable evening of music. Learn more



Nursing grad takes rigorous route to U.S. Navy


Sarah BlakeSacramento State alumna Sarah Blake ’12 (Nursing & Family & Consumer Sciences) has seafaring in her DNA. Her father served as a submariner in the U.S. Navy. Her great-grandfather, cousin, aunt and uncle were sailors as well, while her younger brother is completing submarine school in Groton, Conn. Learn more

Green and Gold Gala celebrates past and looks to future

Green & Gold GalaAs President Alexander Gonzalez celebrates his 10th year of service at Sac State, more than 600 supporters gathered at the Green & Gold Gala: A Decade of Distinction to celebrate the impact he and his wife, Gloria Gonzalez, have had on the Sac State community. A true highlight of the evening was the first award of the President Alexander and Gloria Gonzalez Public Service and Community Leadership Scholarship to Katherine Williams.

Festival of the ArtsFunday highlights expanded Festival of the Arts—Sunday, April 14


As part of Alumni Month, the College of Arts and Letters is launching a new “Family Sunday Funday” on April 14. Filled with family friendly activities, this is the centerpiece of an enhanced Festival of the Arts at Sacramento State. Read more

Royal Chicano Air Force exhibits ‘The Poster!’


Works from one of Sacramento’s premier art collectives, the Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF), will be displayed in “The Poster! La Palabra! The Word!” The free exhibit runs April 2-27 in Sacramento State’s Library Gallery Annex. Read more



Bodies of Water‘Water’ will fill Else Gallery


Sylvia Sensiper will be the featured artist when Sacramento State’s Art Department presents “Bodies of Water,” a collection of her works offering inspiration about the element of nature that sustains all life. Read more



Campus walk fosters suicide awareness

Campus Walk
Sacramento State’s Active Minds Peer Health Educators and Student Health & Counseling Services have teamed up with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to present the second annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk fundraiser Thursday, April 4. Read more

Sacramento State freshman Jennifer Nguyen was named the Big Sky Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Her undefeated play in singles and doubles helped the Hornets to a pair of Big Sky victories. Read more
