Alumnus Ethan Conrad '89 making deals

Ethan ConradCheck out this Sacramento Bee profile on Ethan Conrad, a Sac State business management grad who has emerged as one of the most active buyers of commercial properties in the country. In an economy where few other local people or investment companies are doing any deals, he's scooping up office, industrial and retail properties. His specialty: taking distressed, often vacant buildings, fixing them up and bringing in tenants.

Sacramento Business Review sees an improving economy

Sacramento Business ReviewThe Alumni Center was packed Jan. 23 for the release of the latest edition of the Sacramento Business Review. The review is a partnership between Sac State’s College of Business Administration and the Chartered Financial Analysts Society of Sacramento. It includes reviews and forecasts by 14 financial analysts, covering sectors such as banking, real estate and small business. Check out the full report for more details

PT mock clinic aids injured athletes recovery

PT mock clinicWill Barker, 19, gets around quite ably in his wheelchair; so well, in fact, that when no one is available to drive him to the gym, he sets off on his own—a journey that takes almost two hours from home. In 2009, Barker was a junior at Sacramento’s Valley High, playing defensive back on the football team. He broke his neck and suffered an incomplete spinal cord injury while making a tackle on a Davis High player. Read more

Studies underway that would benefit boomers

Clinical studiesSac State biomechanics Professor David Mandeville has launched two clinical studies to address major vulnerabilities among older people: the high incidence of knee osteoarthritis in middle-aged women, which he believes may be related to the menopause transition, and the likelihood that many elderly person will suffer a devastating fall. McCartney wins third consecutive WAC award

Sac State's Kalliah McCartney was named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the third consecutive week. McCartney scored a season-high 39.350 in the team's meet at San Jose State on Jan. 25. Her score was the highest in the WAC this season and ties her for second place in school history. Read more

Snelson's goal: Helping student-athletes graduate

Lloyd SnelsonDr. Lloyd Snelson longs to see Sac State’s student-athletes follow in his footsteps, though that is a lofty proposition. The long-time Hornet supporter kicked the winning extra point in Sac State’s first victory on the football field back in 1955. His enduring enthusiasm for his alma mater earned Snelson ’57 (Physical Education), MA ’67 (Education), Ph.D. '77 (Psychology) the nickname "Mr. Hornet." Read more

Hornets keep farm buzzing

Fiddyment familyA family of Sac State grads helped Fiddyment Farms build a name for itself in the pistachio business. The story began with Dolly Fiddyment ‘52 (Education), who chose to plant the tasty green nuts at the family farm outside of Roseville in 1965 and continues today, with Fiddyment Farms producing between 2 and 3 million pounds of pistachios each year.
